Year 4 Class

All about Year 4

Year 4 will be an action-packed year filled with lots of opportunities and experiences. Year 4 is a year in which children grow and mature by taking on responsibility and experiencing many new things. This year will provide children will all the skills needed to enter Upper Key Stage Two with excitement and confidence.  Year 4 will be an unforgettable year at school, where learning will always be remembered.

Our Christian values and superstar learning behaviours underpin all that we do at school. To show how important these values are, each week a child in each class will be chosen as ‘Star of the week’ linked to a specific value that they have demonstrated that week, and ‘Christian Value of the week’ linked to the Christian value they have shown across the week.

As well as this, a ‘Writer of the week’ and ‘Mathematician of the week’ certificate will be awarded each week for a child that has shown hard work and effort within their learning in these two core subjects.

The following topics will lead the learning this year:

Autumn Term

We learn all about the Savage Saxons and Vicious Vikings in our History lessons. The Saxons and Vikings used pottery a lot so we can use our History learning to help us in Art too, where we explore different sculpture and pottery techniques.

We learn about the weather in Geography and use this information to help us present our own weather forecast in Computing too. In DT we also make a weather station using our new learning to guide us.

In Science we learn about electric electricity by making circuits and exploring the components needed to make it work.

Spring Term

Going into Spring, we start learning about states of matter in Science and conduct lots of investigations and experiments. We have so much fun learning all about castles and knights in History, and making our very own cushions in DT! We may even get a trip to Tamworth Castle!

Summer Term

In Summer we will learn to play the guitar in music, how to make different types of bread in DT and all about the Terrible Tudors in History. For Science we move on to exploring living things and their habitats as well as sound.
