At Saint Thomas’ we believe that high-quality music education engages and inspires children to develop a love of music and their talents as musicians. The children in Y3/4/and 5 take part in the Wider-opportunities Music Programme and experience playing a musical instrument for one term each year. Instruments they play include the violin, drum ,flute and ukulele.

In Early years children gain experience using a range of instruments to make different sounds and sing songs for enjoyment.

At KS1 Children learn to use their voices expressively and play tuned and un-tuned instruments. They also learn to listen to music with more sustained concentration.

At KS2 children learn to play musical instruments with increased accuracy, fluency, control and expression .  They also listen with attention and detail to music and begin to develop an understanding of the history of music.

We share our love of music with Parents at class assemblies and our annual Carol service . Through the Wider opportunities programme our KS2 children hold a concert for parents at the end of the term to demonstrate the instrumental skills they have been taught.
