At St Thomas’ we recognise the importance of developing the social, moral, spiritual and cultural development of our children to prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life. We promote and grow our children’s social, moral, spiritual and cultural development through our curriculum and the everyday ethos of our school.

PSHE

PSHE is taught at St Thomas’ C of E Academy both implicitly and explicitly. The social, moral, spiritual and cultural development of our children is evident through the behaviour of our children and the strong relationships within school. Our school community life is based on key shared values and principles, including the development of British Values.

Relationship Education

Relationship Education is lifelong learning about physical, moral, mental and emotional development and well-being. It is about the understanding of the importance of stable and loving relationships, demonstrating respect, love and care, for family life in all contexts, including online. Relationships Education also includes an understanding of how to remain safe, be healthy and how to manage children’s academic, personal and social lives in a positive way.

Spiritual development

As a Church of England school, the spiritual development of our children is a key feature with daily worship and weekly worship with Reverend Kate Tingle providing the opportunity for children to learn, reflect and respond to a variety of themes; we provide our children with a range of stimuli to enable them to think deeply about their beliefs as well as the beliefs of others. Our core Christian values of Aspiration, Trust, Respect, Honesty, Responsibility and Forgiveness are universal values which reflect those of all faiths.
